For product managers
A product manager portfolio that shows your decisions
PM work is hard to show: the code is not yours and the designs are not either. What is yours is the problem you chose, the calls you made and what changed. Give each product a case study page.
What a PM portfolio is for
A resume says "led the onboarding redesign". A portfolio shows how: what the problem was, how you knew, what you decided not to do, and what moved. Interviewers use it to prepare questions, so it shapes the conversation before it starts.
On makerhandle each product is a card that opens a project page with a write-up, screenshots, your role and timeline, and up to eight highlights, the one-line results like "activation from 31% to 44% in two quarters".
A case study structure for PMs
- Context: the product, the users, the team and your role in it.
- The problem, and the evidence: research, data, support tickets.
- Options you considered, and why you picked one.
- What shipped, with screenshots.
- Results, with numbers where you can share them, and what you learned.
Keep confidential numbers out. Percentages and relative changes are usually fine; check with your employer if unsure. More on the format in how to write a project case study.
Side projects count double
A side project you scoped, shipped and grew yourself is the clearest PM evidence there is, because every decision was yours. If it has users or revenue, connect it and the figure shows verified. Even a small product with 50 users shows you can find a problem and get something out the door.
Make it easy to reach you
Switch on Open to work and every case study ends with a contact button; add your resume as a PDF. Free covers five projects and three templates; Pro is $20 a year for unlimited projects, all templates and your own domain. See also the designer portfolio page if you work close to design.
Questions
Do product managers need a portfolio?
It is not always required, but it helps, especially when changing companies or moving into product. It turns resume bullets into stories an interviewer can ask about.
What should a PM case study include?
Context and your role, the problem and evidence, options considered, what shipped and the results, with what you learned.
Can I share metrics from my job?
Avoid confidential figures. Relative changes such as percentages are often acceptable, but check your employer's policy.
Is it free?
Yes, for up to five projects. Pro is $20 a year.
