Feature
Your page, on your own domain
Use links.yourdomain.com or yourdomain.com itself. We show you the DNS records, check them, and handle SSL for you.
Subdomain or root domain
You can connect either:
- a subdomain like links.yourdomain.com, me.yourdomain.com or hi.yourname.dev
- a root domain like yourname.com
A subdomain is the simplest choice and leaves your main website and email alone. A root domain works well if you bought a domain just for your page. Root domains need a DNS provider that supports CNAME flattening (or ALIAS / ANAME records), because the DNS standard does not allow a plain CNAME at the root. Our guide on custom domains for your link in bio explains the difference.
Guided setup
Type the domain you want in Settings. makerhandle shows the exact records to add at your DNS provider: a CNAME that points your domain at your page, and sometimes a TXT record to confirm you own it or to let the certificate be issued.
Add them at your registrar, then come back. The editor checks the records and shows the status as it goes from pending to active. Most of the time that takes minutes. If something is wrong, you see it in the editor rather than finding out from a broken link. No support ticket needed.
SSL, handled
Once your records are in place, an SSL certificate is issued for your domain automatically and renewed before it expires. Your page loads over https with a padlock, which matters because browsers warn visitors about plain http pages.
You do not need to buy, upload or renew a certificate yourself, and there is no expiry date to put in your calendar. It is the same setup whether you use a subdomain or a root domain, and it keeps working for as long as your records stay in place.
Why use your own domain
- It looks like yours. A link on your own domain reads as part of your brand, not someone else's.
- It is portable. If you ever move tools, you change a DNS record instead of every bio, every old post and every printed card.
- It is memorable. Easier to say on a podcast, type from a slide or print on a sticker.
- It builds on what you own. Every link you share points at a domain you control.
Pair it with the custom theme builder and the badge removal on Pro, and the page looks entirely your own.

Questions
Is a custom domain included in the free plan?
No. Custom domains are a Pro feature. Pro is $20 a year.
Do I need to buy an SSL certificate?
No. SSL is issued and renewed automatically once your DNS records are in place.
Can I use my root domain?
Yes, if your DNS provider supports CNAME flattening or an ALIAS or ANAME record. Otherwise use a subdomain.
Will adding a subdomain affect my email?
No. A CNAME on a subdomain only changes where that subdomain points. Your email records are untouched.
How long does it take?
Often a few minutes after you add the records, though DNS changes can sometimes take longer to spread.
