Polywork alternative

A Polywork alternative for makers

Polywork shut down at the end of January 2025. If it was your personal site, here is a simple replacement that puts your projects first.

What happened to Polywork

Polywork started as a professional network and later moved toward a personal website builder. The company announced it would shut down on January 31, 2025, and its site is no longer online.

If your bios, CV or email signature still link to a Polywork page, those links are broken. Replacing them with a page on a domain you own means this will not happen again.

If you did not export your content before the closure, check old emails, drafts and notes for project descriptions you can reuse.

What Polywork did well

Polywork's big idea was that people are more than one job title. Profiles showed everything you did: side projects, talks, writing, collaborations. That fits makers well, because most makers have several things on the go at once.

A good replacement should let you show all of that, past and present, without turning it into a chore.

It also made it normal to show work in progress alongside finished work. That is a healthy habit for makers, and worth keeping. Your next page should make it just as easy to show side projects, experiments and things that did not work out.

Every project, one page

makerhandle lets you list everything you make as a project, with a description, link, tags, screenshot and status: Active, Building, Acquired, On hold or Discontinued. Your bio is Markdown, so you can mention talks, writing or your background in a few lines.

Choose one of seven templates (Stack, Showcase, Bento, Minimal, Spotlight, Terminal or Studio). They are designed so you cannot break them, and setup takes about two minutes. For ideas, read the indie hacker portfolio guide.

Switching templates keeps all your content.

Yours to keep

On Pro, put your page on your own domain with SSL issued and renewed automatically, so your link survives whatever happens to any tool. You can also export your page content as JSON whenever you like. See custom domain.

You also get cookie-free analytics, an email subscribe box with double opt-in and CSV export, and optional verified revenue from Stripe or Shopify if your projects earn money.

Protect the account with two-factor login using an authenticator app and recovery codes.

Getting started

Copy your bio and project links across, add screenshots, set statuses and pick a template in the live preview editor. Then update every place that linked to Polywork.

makerhandle is free for five projects and three templates. Pro is $20 a year for unlimited projects, all seven templates and the theme builder, a custom domain, unlimited subscribers, a year of analytics and no badge. See pricing or makerhandle for solopreneurs.

A basic page takes about two minutes. Then share the link everywhere.
