Tap Bio Is Shutting Down: What to Do Now
By Dane Dolph · · 3 min read · #Link in bio #Guides
If your Instagram bio still points to a tap.bio page, you have a deadline. Reports published in October 2026 say Tap Bio announced it will shut down on October 31, 2026, that it stopped accepting new sign ups, and that pages will be deleted after the closing date. The same reports say there is no one-click export.
We could not find the announcement on Tap Bio's own site, so check your account and your inbox for the official wording. But there is no harm in moving early, and a lot of harm in moving late.
What happens on October 31
Based on what has been reported:
- you lose access to your Tap Bio account
- your pages are removed
- any link to your tap.bio address stops working
That last point is the one that hurts. Your link is not just in your Instagram bio. It is in old posts, story highlights, email signatures, podcast notes and printed cards. Every one of those will send people to an error page.
Save your content today
There is reportedly no export file, so do it by hand. It takes ten minutes:
- Open your Tap Bio page in a browser, not the app.
- For each card, copy the title, text and link into a note.
- Save any images you uploaded (right click, save image).
- Note the order of your cards. It was a choice worth keeping.
- Take a full-page screenshot as a record of how it looked.
Do this even if you have not picked a replacement yet. Once the page is gone, it is gone.
Pick a replacement by job
Tap Bio was a card-based link in bio for Instagram. Replacements differ by what you used it for:
- Pointing to content (posts, videos, episodes): a classic link list like Linktree works well.
- Selling directly: a creator storefront like Beacons or Stan Store has a checkout built in.
- Showing what you make: a maker page like makerhandle shows each product with a status, screenshot and optional verified revenue.
We wrote a longer guide that sorts the options by job: Linktree alternatives for makers. If you want the direct comparison, see the Tap Bio alternative.
Rebuild in a few minutes
Whatever tool you choose, the rebuild is the same:
- Write a two-line bio. Who you are and what you make.
- Add your most important link first. On Tap Bio this was probably your first card.
- Add the rest in order, with a short description each.
- Pick a layout and check it on your phone.
On makerhandle, each link is a project with a name, link and description, and logos fill themselves in from each site's favicon. A typical page takes about two minutes.
Update every place the old link lives
This is the step people skip. Make a list:
- Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube, LinkedIn, Threads and any other profile
- pinned posts and story highlights that mention the link
- your email signature
- your newsletter footer and welcome email
- podcast show notes and video descriptions you can still edit
- slides, PDFs and printed material for the next print run
Check your new page's analytics a day later. If visits are arriving from Instagram, the swap worked.
Make this the last move
Tap Bio is not the first link in bio to close. Koji closed in January 2024, and Shopify's Linkpop and Linktree's Bento have shut down since. Each time, people had to update every link they had ever shared.
The fix is to put your link in bio on a domain you own, like links.yourname.com. If the tool behind it ever closes, you change one DNS record and every link keeps working. makerhandle Pro includes a custom domain with SSL for $20 a year; read custom domain for your link in bio for how it works with any tool.
