Free QR code generator

Paste a link and get a QR code you can print or post. Pick a color, put your logo in the middle and download it as PNG, SVG or a print-ready card.

Look

QR code: makerhandle.com

Example: makerhandle.com

Made in your browser. Free, no sign-up, and the code never expires.

How to make a QR code

  1. Paste the address you want people to land on. Leave off the https:// if you like, it is added for you.
  2. Pick a color. Dark colors scan best; if you pick a pale one, the tool darkens it until phone cameras can read it.
  3. Add your logo if you want one in the middle.
  4. Download a PNG for social posts and slides, an SVG for a designer or a sign shop, or the print card as a PDF you can take to any printer.

Scan it with your own phone before you print a thousand of them. It takes five seconds and saves a reprint.

Static codes do not expire

Many QR code sites make a "dynamic" code: the code opens their short link, which forwards to yours. Stop paying, and every code you printed stops working. Some free trials end that way after 14 days.

The codes made here are static: your address is written into the pattern itself, so nothing sits in between and nothing can be switched off. The catch is that you cannot change where a printed code goes. The fix is to point it at a page you control, like a link in bio page, and change the links on the page instead. That is what the link in bio QR code is for.

Getting a code that scans every time

  • Contrast. Dark code on a white background. Light codes on dark backgrounds fail on many phone cameras.
  • Size. At least 2 x 2 cm (about 0.8 inch) on a card, and larger the further away people stand. A rule of thumb: the scanning distance divided by 10.
  • Quiet zone. Leave the white border around the code. The downloads include it.
  • Short addresses. The shorter the link, the fewer squares, and the easier it is to scan from a distance. Strip tracking tags you do not need, or add only the ones you do with the UTM builder.

Want to know who scanned? Point the code at your makerhandle page: scans show up in your stats as their own source.

Questions

Do these QR codes expire?

No. The address is written into the code itself, not routed through a short link, so it works for as long as the page it opens exists. There is no subscription to keep paying.

Is it really free, with no sign-up?

Yes. The code is made in your browser and downloaded straight from it. Nothing is sent to us and there is no watermark.

Can I add my logo?

Yes. Upload a PNG, JPG or SVG and it goes in the middle. The code switches to the highest error correction, so it still scans with the middle covered.

PNG, SVG or PDF: which should I download?

PNG for anything on a screen and most printing. SVG when a designer or a sign maker asks for a vector file, since it stays sharp at any size. The PDF is a ready-made A6 card with the code and a line of text, for printing at home or at a print shop.

Can I track how many people scan it?

A static code cannot count scans on its own. Point it at a page that counts visits, such as a makerhandle page, which shows QR scans as their own source in your stats, or add UTM tags to the link.
