# MRR calculator

> Free MRR calculator: add your plans, billing periods, subscribers and discounts, and get monthly recurring revenue and ARR. Runs in your browser.

Add each plan you sell, how often it bills and how many people are on it. You get monthly recurring revenue, ARR and the average revenue per customer.

## How the calculator works out MRR

**MRR** is the revenue your active subscriptions bring in each month, with every plan converted to a monthly amount. The calculator does the same thing your accounting should:

1. A monthly plan counts at its price.
2. A quarterly plan counts at its price divided by 3.
3. A yearly plan counts at its price divided by 12, not at the full payment.
4. A discount comes off the price before it is converted.
5. The plan totals are added up.

So 40 customers on a $10 monthly plan plus 10 customers on a $96 yearly plan is $400 + 10 x $8 = **$480 MRR**. The full definition, with what to leave out, is in the [MRR glossary entry](https://makerhandle.com/glossary/mrr).

## What not to count

One-time payments, setup fees, refunds and usage you have not billed yet are not recurring revenue, so they stay out. Trials count once they convert. Canceled subscriptions count until the end of the period they paid for, then drop out.

If your product sells one-time purchases, a revenue figure for the last 30 days is the honest number to show instead. We compare the two in [MRR vs last 30 days revenue](https://makerhandle.com/blog/mrr-vs-revenue-which-to-show).

## Show the number without a screenshot

A calculator is fine for planning. When you share MRR in public, people ask whether it is real. makerhandle reads it from Stripe with a read-only key and shows it on your page with a check mark, so nobody has to trust a screenshot. See [verified MRR from Stripe](https://makerhandle.com/features/stripe-mrr) or the step by step [guide to showing verified MRR](https://makerhandle.com/blog/how-to-show-verified-mrr).

## Questions

### How do I calculate MRR?

Convert every active subscription to a monthly amount (yearly price divided by 12, quarterly divided by 3), take off discounts, and add them up. One-time payments are left out.

### Do yearly plans count in MRR?

Yes, at one twelfth of the yearly price each month. A $120 yearly plan adds $10 of MRR, even in the month it is paid.

### What is the difference between MRR and ARR?

ARR is MRR times 12: the same recurring revenue, stated for a year. The ARR calculator also projects it forward at a growth rate.

### Does this tool store my numbers?

No. It runs entirely in your browser and sends nothing anywhere.
