# Logos that fill themselves in

> Add a project link and its logo appears: makerhandle fetches the site favicon, serves it from its own servers and falls back to a clean letter tile.

Paste a project's link and its icon appears. No exporting, cropping or uploading for every small project you ship.

## How it works

When a project has a link but no uploaded logo, makerhandle looks up the site's **favicon**. It asks Google's favicon service first and DuckDuckGo's second, skips generic placeholder globes, and keeps the first real image it finds.

If neither has one, it draws a clean **letter tile** with the first letter of the site. Every project always has an icon, and the page never looks unfinished.

## Served from our side

Fetched icons are cached and served from makerhandle's own address, not loaded from Google or DuckDuckGo in your visitor's browser. That keeps pages fast and means your visitors' browsers do not contact third parties just to show an icon.

It fits the rest of the page: no cookies, no third-party trackers. See [analytics](https://makerhandle.com/features/analytics).

## Upload when you want

Prefer a specific logo? Upload one in the editor and it takes priority. For most small projects, the favicon is exactly the right icon, because it is the one your users already see in their browser tabs.

Automatic logos work on every plan. They pair well with screenshots in [Showcase](https://makerhandle.com/features/showcase-template).

## Questions

### Where do automatic logos come from?

From the site's favicon, looked up through Google and then DuckDuckGo, and served from makerhandle.

### What if my site has no favicon?

We draw a letter tile instead, so the card still looks finished.

### Can I upload my own logo?

Yes. An uploaded logo always replaces the automatic one.

### Do visitors load icons from Google?

No. Icons are fetched once on our side and served from makerhandle.
