# Can You Use a Custom Domain with Linktree?

> Linktree does not support custom domains on any plan. What a domain redirect does and does not do, and the link in bio tools that let you use your own domain.

Short answer: no. Linktree's own help center says it plainly: "Linktree doesn't support custom domains." Your page lives at linktr.ee/yourname, you cannot replace that with your own domain, and Linktree adds that it does not provide developer tools for setting up domain forwarding either. That article was updated in October 2026, so this is the current position, not an old limit.

This guide covers what people do instead, what each workaround really gets you, and which link in bio tools do let you use your own domain. We make makerhandle, which is one of them, and we say so where it comes up.

## Why people want their own domain on a link in bio

Three reasons come up again and again:

- **It looks like yours.** links.yourname.com reads as part of your brand. linktr.ee/yourname reads as a page on someone else's site.
- **It survives the tool.** Link in bio tools close. [Koji](https://makerhandle.com/compare/koji), [Bento](https://makerhandle.com/compare/bento), Linkpop and now [Tap Bio](https://makerhandle.com/blog/tap-bio-shutting-down) did. Every link people shared to those pages broke at once. A domain you own can be pointed somewhere new in minutes.
- **It is easier to say.** On a podcast, on a slide or on a sticker, yourname.com beats a string with a platform's name in it.

## Workaround 1: forward your domain to Linktree

Most registrars can forward a domain: you set yourname.com to send visitors to linktr.ee/yourname. It is free and takes five minutes.

What you get: a short address you can say out loud, and the freedom to point it somewhere else later. That second part is the real win. If you ever leave Linktree, you change the forward and every printed card still works.

What you do not get: your domain on the page. A forward is a redirect, so the address bar ends on linktr.ee and search engines see Linktree's address as the page. The page is still Linktree's, with its branding unless your plan removes it.

If you do this, use a forward you control at your registrar, not a third-party redirect service, so you are not adding another tool that can close.

## Workaround 2: use Linktree's Redirect the other way round

Linktree has a **Redirect** feature on its Starter, Pro and Premium plans that sends visitors who open your Linktree to a link you choose. That does not put Linktree on your domain, but it is useful when you are leaving: point linktr.ee/yourname at your new page, so every old link in old posts still lands somewhere that works. More on that in [how to move from Linktree](https://makerhandle.com/blog/move-from-linktree).

## Workaround 3: a link in bio that supports custom domains

If you want the page itself on your domain, you need a tool built for it. As of October 2026, from their own pricing and help pages:

| Tool | Custom domain | Where to check |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Linktree** | Not supported | Linktree help center |
| **makerhandle** | On Pro, $20 a year, SSL included | [Pricing](https://makerhandle.com/pricing) |
| **Carrd** | On Pro Standard, $19 a year | carrd.co/pro |
| **Beacons** | On a paid plan, per its help center | help.beacons.ai |

Prices and plans change, so open each tool's own page before you buy. Our [Linktree alternatives](https://makerhandle.com/compare/linktree-alternatives) roundup compares more tools on more than this one feature.

## How a custom domain works on makerhandle

On Pro you type the domain you want in Settings. It can be a subdomain such as links.yourname.com, which leaves your main site and email alone, or the root domain yourname.com if your DNS provider supports CNAME flattening. The editor shows the exact records to add, checks them, and issues and renews the SSL certificate for you. Most setups go live within minutes.

You keep the domain at your own registrar. If you ever leave, you change one record and every link you have shared keeps working. The full walkthrough is in [connecting a custom domain to your link in bio](https://makerhandle.com/blog/custom-domain-link-in-bio), and the feature itself is on the [custom domain](https://makerhandle.com/features/custom-domain) page.

## Which should you pick?

- **You like your Linktree and only want a nicer address:** forward a domain to it. Free, and it future-proofs every link you share.
- **You want the page on your domain:** switch to a tool that supports it. If you are moving anyway, [import your Linktree](https://makerhandle.com/import) so your links come over in one step.
- **You are not sure yet:** buy the domain now and forward it. Whatever you choose later, the address on your cards and in your bios never has to change again.
